Dog-Friendly Holiday Apartments on Lake Constance and in the Allgäu

Eight apartments and holiday houses where your dog is welcome – by the lake, among the orchards and in the mountains near Oberstaufen.

Lake Constance and the Allgäu are good destinations for anyone who would rather not leave their dog at home. By the lake, shore paths, orchards and the Argen valley between Langenargen and Kressbronn make for long walks; in Oberstaufen, the trails through the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park start right in the village. Dogs travel free on the scheduled boats of the Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe, and Mainau Island admits leashed dogs to its grounds.

Eight of our 34 apartments are open to guests with dogs. In Friedrichshafen these are Valentina's Seeview Maisonette, the SEEwiese, Oscar's City Apartment and Karl's City Apartment. If you are travelling with several families or a group, Ferienhaus Apfelblüte in Markdorf (up to 18 guests, set among orchards) and Ferienhaus Bodensee in Oberteuringen (up to 18 guests) have the space; at Ferienhaus Apfelblüte, the Apartment Oscar can also be booked on its own. In the Allgäu, the Alpine Wohlfühl-Apartment in Oberstaufen awaits. One guest wrote on Booking in April 2024 (translated): "If you travel with a dog, there are lovely field paths and hiking trails right behind the house."

A pet fee per stay applies when you bring a dog; it is shown at checkout. Please tell us about your dog when you book. On site, dogs must be leashed in nature reserves such as the Eriskircher Ried, in town centres and in the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park. Most public lidos on Lake Constance do not admit dogs, but there are dog bathing spots in Friedrichshafen-Manzell, Fischbach, Immenstaad and Uhldingen-Mühlhofen, for example. You book directly with us, with no portal fees.

Why bring your dog to us?

Dog bathing spots instead of lidos

The public lidos in the Lake Constance district are generally off-limits to dogs. Instead there are bathing spots where people and dogs can go into the water together – in Friedrichshafen-Manzell, Fischbach, Immenstaad and at the natural beach in Uhldingen-Mühlhofen, for example.

Across the lake by boat

Your leashed dog travels free on the scheduled boats of the Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe. On the catamaran between Konstanz and Friedrichshafen you buy a child's ticket for your dog; dogs are not admitted on special cruises.

Hiking in the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park

Around Oberstaufen, trails such as the Nagelfluhschleife Alpenfreiheit lead through alpine meadows and woodland; dogs are allowed but must stay on a leash. The Hündle and Imberg cable cars carry dogs free of charge, the Hochgratbahn for a small fee – and none of them require a muzzle.

Holiday houses for groups with dogs

Ferienhaus Apfelblüte in Markdorf and Ferienhaus Bodensee in Oberteuringen sleep up to 18 guests – plus the dogs that belong to them. In Markdorf, the orchards begin right outside the door.

Frequently asked questions

Are there dog beaches on Lake Constance?

There are no officially designated dog beaches in the Lake Constance district, and most public lidos do not admit dogs. There are, however, several dog bathing spots, for example the recreation area in Friedrichshafen-Manzell, the Fildenplatz in Fischbach, the natural beach in Uhldingen-Mühlhofen and the bathing spot by the Stadtgarten in Überlingen. In Langenargen, dogs may use the DLRG beach only outside the season, from October to April.

Can I bring more than one dog?

Please get in touch before booking if you are travelling with more than one dog. We will tell you which apartment is suitable. The two holiday houses for groups offer considerably more space than the city apartments.

How much does it cost to bring a dog?

We charge a pet fee per stay for guests with dogs. You will see the exact amount at checkout before you complete your booking. Because you book directly with us, there are no portal fees on top.

Can my dog come on the boats and ferries?

Yes. Dogs travel free on the scheduled boats of the Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe but must stay on a leash on board; they are not admitted on special cruises. On the catamaran between Konstanz and Friedrichshafen, dogs need a child's ticket. For the car ferry Friedrichshafen–Romanshorn, it is best to check briefly with the operator.
